Ideal Situation
•Dametrious Crownover is a huge OT that any team would add for depth. The first thing you notice, for obvious reasons, is that he is over 6’7” and has 35 ⅜” arms, 10-inch hands, and weighs 319lbs. For his frame, he moves pretty well. He ran a 5.14 40 time, which at his size is incredible. Crownover’s hip fluidity to turn and cut off outside lanes is pretty good, considering how massive he is. Crownover’s initial step out of his stance is pretty solid, and he can recover with his feet decently well. He possesses heavy hands that slowly drain energy from an edge defender. There is plenty of violence in his hands from the initial punch. In the run game, Crownover is plenty talented as he can seal off defenders to open massive lanes for ball carriers. There is plenty of power in his legs to drive defenders out of the play as well. He also showed at times that he can anchor down with good timing, but we will come back to that. I also loved his physicality and ability to absolutely lay out someone by barreling over them. I also noticed plenty of patience to not fall for spin moves and other maneuvers defenders might try to use to get his feet and hands out of position. Now, while all those are great things and a great foundation for a team to work on, he still has plenty of stuff to improve upon. Starting with his athleticism, he still moves decently stiff, which is expected but worth noting. His agility also tested pretty poorly in the shuttle drill. While there are some good things about his footwork, he struggles to keep his balance and was absolutely bodied a couple times because his base was too narrow. He can also still struggle slightly to contain the edge against super quick thinner guys. Crownover had far too inconsistent hand timing, and his hand placement was much better. For someone with such long arms, only very few edge players should be able to long-arm him, and yet people with shorter arms were able to do it quite often because he would place his hands on the shoulders and be late. While he has shown he can anchor down, most of the time it was too late, where he was 2 feet from the QB. Crownover also struggles to play low because of how tall and lanky he is. Crownover also had 11 penalties in 2025, which is an insane amount. Crownover is also an older prospect, as he will turn 25 in September. Dametrious Crownover was very reliable in the injury department and rarely missed time, if at all, while in college. Dametrious Crownover was selected by the New England Patriots with the 196th pick in the 6th round. Personally, I really like this pick as they continue to prioritize keeping Drake Maye upright. Caleb Lomu was their first-round pick who I really, really like as a player, and Crownover is a great developmental depth piece to add to this tackle room. While I doubt he will get any playtime unless someone gets hurt, he should get some reps in practice and maybe, in a few years, get some in-game reps.
