Processing / Game IQ
Pros:
•Identifies blitzes and makes his own adjustments at the line of scrimmage
•Plenty of experience playing under center
•Can get through progressions decently well
•Has solid timing on his throws
•Makes solid post snap and pre snap reads
•Gets eyes on safeties immediately post snap
•Has shown flashes of throwing with anticipation
•Smart with the football and avoids putting it into harms way
•Shown flashes of looking off safeties and eye manipulation
Cons:
•Progressions could get faster
•Played in a heavy RPO system that made most of his reads one-step reads and didn’t require him to make 1 to 2 to 3 reads
•A tiny bit of a product of the system, as the overall offensive scheme is able to get his first read open
•Can be fooled by disguised coverages
•Could throw with anticipation more
Accuracy & Ball Placement
Pros:
•Can layer throws over the second level
•Has great accuracy when throwing from the pocket
•Good ball placement places the ball away from breaking defenders
•Good accuracy and short throws
Cons:
•Loses accuracy when throwing further downfield off one foot
•Accuracy can hinder when getting through his progressions
•Can do a better job, more consistently throwing the ball away from defenders
Improvisation / Play Extension
Pros:
•Can occasionally slip off sacks in the pocket, but he most likely will get sacked at the next level
•Does a good job finding the open man when under pressure
•Remains relatively accurate when throwing under pressure
•Shown flashes of scrambling ability
Cons:
•Not the greatest at throwing off platform
•Not a true playmaker or improviser
Arm Talent (Strength + Angles)
Pros:
•Can get above-average zip when set and throwing from the pocket
Cons:
•Loses velocity when throwing off platform
•Lacks elite velocity and arm strength
•The ball doesn’t jump out of his hands
Athleticism / Mobility / Frame
Pros:
•Great size and frame
Cons:
•Doesn’t have the athleticism to outrun d-linemen or secondary players
•Will more often than not get caught at the next level when trying to scramble
Mechanics / Footwork
Pros:
•Great play fakes on play-action plays
•Consistently pulls defenders forward from his play fakes
•Has solid 3-step drop footwork
•Has good overall throwing mechanics when set and throwing from the pocket
Cons:
•Gets audibles from the sidelines and coaches
•Footwork can become stagnant when having to get through all his progressions
•Not good at resetting his launch point after getting flooded or moved in the pocket
•Can’t change arm angles when throwing from the pocket which leads to a lot of bat downs
•Doesn’t do the greatest job stepping up into the pocket to avoid sacks
Poise / Leadership / Toughness
Pros:
•Multiple seasons of starting experience at the collegiate level
•Not scared to take a hit in order to get the football out or getting yards in short yardage scenarios
Cons:
•Season-ending shoulder separation injury in 2023
•High ankle sprain in 2021
•25 years old is very old for a rookie QB
Games Watched:
•Week 2 vs SYR, Week 7 vs BC, Week 10 vs DUKE
Ideal Situation:
•True QB3 that only sees playing time when multiple or one QB gets hurt. Operates well as a pure pocket passer and game manager that could benefit from a true West Coast offense or modified RPO/West Coast scheme. Would be a good fit with the New Orleans Saints, Detroit Lions, New England Patriots, Dallas Cowboys, Houston Texans, and Atlanta Falcons. The reason he has so many fits is that every team needs an average to above-average journeyman backup, and that is exactly the role he will fit in the pros.
