Processing / Game IQ
Pros:
•Showed that he can adjust routes to space, especially in the red zone
Cons:
•Will lazily run shorter routes over the middle and stop in coverage
•Does drift back a bit after breaks on stop routes
Route Running / Catching
Pros:
•Good breakdowns and footwork at speed
•Good hands in the middle of the field and in traffic
•Elite arm length and hand size for a TE lead to a great catch radius
•Has good concentration and ball tracking to make the circus catches and contested catches
•Has shown late hands a couple of times on film
•Good concentration and awareness to flip hands on low balls only
•Good straight speed for a TE, which leads to him being able to run past linebackers
Cons:
•Would like to see him be more explosive out of breaks and gather more distance on first step out of breaks
•Likes to keep the ball away from his body after catching it, which gives defenders the opportunity to knock it out
•Gets a bit lazy when route running across the middle at times
•Can lack physicality when route running and struggles when the coverage is more physical
•Can struggle to haul in the ball through heavy contact
•12.3% drop rate his senior year
•Will sometimes give up on passes that are very catchable
YAC / RAC Ability
Pros:
•Good with the ball in his hands, which was utilized on slot screens a few times
•Ability to eat contact and move with it, leading to missed tackles
•Good drive after contact, which leads to extra yards after contact, especially if the defender hits high
•Even flashed a juke move at times that was surprisingly effective
Cons:
•NEEDS to secure the ball after the catch
Blocking
Pros:
•Doesn’t get blown back on blocks
•Long arms lead to him not getting long-armed by DEs
Cons:
•Doesn’t have a good drive as a blocker and doesn’t keep his feet moving, which leads to him not getting much push
•Gets caught holding and even got away with a couple of holds
•Subpar move as a pull blocker, runs high, and lets the defender get into his chest
•Bigger frame leads to high pad level in general, and he would duck his head instead of lowering pads
•Reaches on blocks or lazily throws a shoulder sometimes
•Bad hand placement on blocking, and usually comes in with hands very wide
Physicality
Pros:
•Does have the elite arm extension to reach past smaller DBs to haul in catches others can’t
•Does have a decent rip move to get his hands off of him while running routes
•Does attempt to get skinny when getting rerouted
Cons:
•Lacks play strength as a blocker
•Struggles to fight through contact while running routes and doesn’t have a strong swipe to get his hands off
•Career 45% contested catch rate
Athleticism / Frame
Pros:
•Elite arm length (85in 99th percentile)
•Great catch radius due to elite arm length
•Good movement ability and athletic ability
•Good burst to get upfield, leading to mismatches all over the field
Cons:
•A bigger, lengthier frame leads to him running high and allowing defenders to get into his chest on routes or while blocking
Versatility
Pros:
•Primarily used as a deep threat and had more targets of 10+ air yards than some of the nation's top receivers (43)
•Logged most of his snaps in the slot with inline snaps mixed in
•Utilized in motion as an insert blocker regularly
Cons:
•Will need to get better at run blocking if he wants to get any snaps other than the slot
•No special teams experience

Ideal Situation:
•Michael Trigg is a highly athletic pass-catching tight end with elite arm length and the ability to make great catches. He has massive hands, and that shows on film as he doesn’t fight the ball on many throws and looks like he’s catching a pillow at times. With that being said, he did struggle heavily with drops throughout his career. This might have to do with his tendency to hold the ball away from his body, which leads defenders to knock it out of his hands more often than you would like. While his average YAC numbers aren’t great (he only averaged 4.5 yards after the catch), he wasn’t heavily utilized in the underneath game, so his YAC usually came from the open field rather than in traffic. While his route-running is quite fluid at speed, especially for a tight end of his size, I would like to see him explode out of breaks more often. His blocking is also capped at a pretty low ceiling. His long arms prevent him from getting long-armed, but his taller frame does let the defenders get into his chest when he is blocking on the move. The Cowboys signed him in free agency, and this is a B signing. He isn’t the most versatile player, and that will hurt him in trying to get on the field early. He would be primarily used as a massive slot receiver that can create mismatches against most defenders, but the Cowboys already have multiple great receiving weapons, so his time on the field could be limited.
