Processing / Game IQ
Pros:
•Does a good job finding soft spots in the zone
•Gets to the second level defenders with good timing on run blocks
Cons:
•Can get a little lost in space on who to block
•Could get his head around a little quicker
•Can be too indecisive when lead blocking and end up blocking no one
Route Running / Catching
Pros:
•Good hands catches
•Chips and gets into his route with good timing
•Has separating speed to be a vertical threat in the pass game
•Good hand activation throughout the route
•Adjusts to the ball well and still has good tracking skills
•Can handle physicality throughout the route and still create separation
•Explodes out of his 3-point stance to catch defenders asleep and get to open grass
Cons:
•Doesn’t catch the ball clean every time; there is some bobbling from time to time
•Doesn’t have a press release besides trying to be a bulldozer
•Has never had to show any actual route-running ability
YAC / RAC Ability
Pros:
•Accelerates after the catch very well
•Gets upfield in a hurry
•Can rip off 20-yard chunk plays
Cons:
•Goes down on first contact a lot
•Not gonna juke you out or truck you
Blocking
Pros:
•Effort is definitely there
•Can be decent as a pulling blocker
•Solid stock blocker in space on WR tunnel screens or jailbreak screens
•Very strong initial punch into the defender
•Washes out smaller defenders really well
•Very functional as a lead blocker
•Shown independent hand movement as a blocker
•If he gets knocked off his block, he recovers well
•Shown hand replacement skills and initial hand placement skills
•Plays with great leverage and pad level
Cons:
•Feet are clunky when pass blocking
•Crossover steps are too common
•Gives up the edge to pass rushers
•Simply doesn’t have the frame to create drive against big defenders
•His feet stop sometimes, which makes him vulnerable to a snatch move
Physicality
Pros:
•Seeks contact and wants to impose his will on defenders
•Displays grit
•Was used to push the pile in the tush push
•Shown no timidness when facing someone 100lbs bigger than him
Cons:
•Has gotten absolutely laid out by bigger guys
•Can struggle with contested catches
Athleticism / Frame
Pros:
•9.86 RAS Score
•6’4” and change is average
•38” vert is pretty elite, especially for the position
•10.05 broad jump is amazing
•Absolutely elite 40 at 4.49 for a TE is insane
•Has speed to rip the seams
Cons:
•Underweight at 245lbs
•31 ⅝” arms is meh, it could limit his ability to block at the next level, and his catch radius
Versatility
Pros:
•Was motioned a ton
•Played in 12 personnel and 11
•Lined up at FB sometimes, but was never a main part of the play
•Used as a lead blocker on a variety of plays
Cons:
•While he would line up outside, he would always get motioned back inside
•Never really lined up on the LOS at the receiver position

Ideal Situation
•Oscar Delp is a high-upside tight end who has all the keys to be a productive vertical threat at the NFL level, but still hasn’t had the production to back it up. Delp has decent hands, can rip off big chunk plays, and displayed a ton of grit and toughness in the run game. I love his physicality and pure Bulldog mentality. You can tell he loves contact and wants to deliver punishment. Delp has elite athleticism and has the height to play the position. Delp loves to gash the seams and exploit snoozing safeties and linebackers for big gains. Now, let's get to the things that could be limiting his production. Delp is a good speed releaser and has more than enough separating speed to beat guys deep or in a foot race, but he never showed any true route-running ability. While he can rip off chunk plays from time to time, he goes down on first contact a little too much and doesn’t have any juking ability. Delp was a pretty successful blocker, but I am curious how steep the learning curve will be for him in the NFL. While Delp is super athletic, he was never used as a versatile weapon like others who possessed his athleticism. I wanted to see him split out wide or in the slot more often. Oscar Delp was selected by the New Orleans Saints in the 3rd Round, 73rd pick. While I like Delp as a prospect, it will be very difficult for him to get in-game reps early in his career. He could definitely play in 13 personnel sets, but he is behind proven veterans. Juwan Johnson at 29 just had the best season of his career with 889 receiving yards and 3 TDs. Noah Fant just signed with the team and has been a pretty solid TE his entire career. I think Delp will learn a ton of good tips from these experienced vets. If Oscar Delp can be a true sponge by year 3, I could see him potentially earning the starting role. I think Delp has a ton of upside, and it could possibly be better if he doesn’t get a lot of early reps.
