Ideal Situation:
•Patrick Kutas is the right guard for Ole Miss after starting his career at Arkansas. He is very physical in the trenches and is always looking for work if there isn’t anyone in front of him. Whether it's finding someone to block in pass pro by helping out teammates or climbing to the second level on run blocks, he is always looking to hit someone. He plays through the whistle and is willing to step to people pushing after the play is dead. His hands are very solid, and he does a good job keeping them from getting too wide so he doesn’t get any holding calls. His punch sometimes lands a little high, so he needs to watch for hands-to-the-face penalties, but overall he has strong hands and is always quick to replace them if they get swiped away. His anchor in pass pro is also very solid. He won’t get pushed back more than one step, and then he anchors and is very hard to move. He can also move his feet well with spin moves and generally does a good job of staying between the DL and the QB. He struggles at times with picking up blitzing linebackers but does a good job of passing off rushers when zone blocking and picking up stunts. His run blocking could use some work, though. He is good at the point of attack and rarely misses blocks when down blocking, but he struggles at the second level. Linebackers regularly outmaneuver him, and he needs to get better at getting hands on second-level defenders. He is alright as a puller; he can sometimes throw a shoulder or whiff on a block, but overall he's decent at it. In my opinion, his biggest selling point is his size. He has great size for an NFL guard and isn’t too heavy, which lets him stay mobile in many blocking schemes. His size also allows him to fill in at tackle if the team needs it. Overall, I think any team could use him, since any team could use OL depth, but he could fit best with teams that need guard depth and run a zone scheme. Teams like the Eagles, Giants, and Buccaneers could use a versatile lineman who can play interior or kick out to tackle and have been plagued by injuries in the past.
