Footwork

Pros:
•Seals the edge well in combo blocks
•Feet stay moving
•Mirrors defenders well
•Kick slide is ok
Cons:
•Kick slide isn’t elite and doesn’t jump out at you
•Angle of his kick slide sometimes opens a lane the QB
Hand Usage
Pros:
•Very effective arm bar mitigates dip moves and bending defensive ends
•Solid grip strength
•Independent hand movement is solid for his arm length
•Great hand placement
Cons:
•Hands could fire out a little harder and be placed better more consistently
•Hand timing has lapses sometimes
•Struggles to arm bar finesse rushers or ends that rely on their speed more than power
•Arm length will limit his ability in hand fights or if his hand timing slips up
Strength / Anchor
Pros:
•Pad level is low the majority of the time, which allows him to outleverage defenders
•Snatch technique is amazing
•Anchors himself very well in pass blocking
•Really good power absorption
•Handles the bull rush from edge defenders very well
Cons:
•Doesn’t have the most elite leg drive
•The pad level occasionally gets high
•Needs to keep his head up otherwise, he is susceptible to swim moves and rip downs
•Not gonna be able to drive anyone bigger than him back in gap schemes
•Can really struggle to handle bigger interior defenders on stunts
Physicality
Pros:
•Flashes some good physicality and finishing ability
•Physicality really shows in gap scheme power plays
•Aggression at the point of attack is solid
Cons:
•Lacks elite knockback strength at the point of attack

•Works from the inside to out very well
•Majority of the time, he advances to the second level decently well
•Does a really good job holding his first assignment for long enough before moving on to his second assignment in zone run plays
•Willingness to lay multiple blocks in a single play
•Passes along defenders well
Cons:
•Can be a little too late moving to the second level
•Got too far upfield and cost his team a massive TD against Texas Tech
•Gets confused by stunts or overloads

Ideal Situation
•Spencer Fano is a very talented and refined OT. His athleticism is elite, and the Cleveland Browns desperately needed help in the trenches. While I do think he is more pro-ready than his Ute counterpart, Caleb Lomu, there are concerns, especially about his size. His arm length, weight, and height don’t stand out and are considered below average, aside from his height. Overall, his footwork, hand usage, no injury history, hustle, and game IQ make it easy to see why he was picked in the top 15. Fano could eventually move to guard at some point, depending on what the Browns decide what to do with him.
